Wabowden Manitoba

Named for W.A. Bowden, once Chief Engineer for the federal Department of Railways and canals. Being situated in mid nothern Manitoba places the community in the heart of Tolko's timber harvesting and Falconbridge's mining activities.
Wabowden is also located close to Setting Lake which is part of the Grass River Watershed.  The area provides excellent sport fishing, hunting canoeing and vacationing in clean, unspoiled waters.
Commercial Fishing is an important industry with the Freshwater Fish Marketing Corporation providing packing, and distribution facilities for the surrounding area.  Trapping is also pursued. Much agricultural potential exists in that Wabowden is located on the northern edge of a large well-drained soil area.
The community is governed by an elected Mayor and Council responsible to the Provincial Northern Affairs Department.
